Even pilots get sick of flying. That’s when they trek down to the BVI and take part in the Interline Regatta, an annual gathering of sailboat racing and island parties open to airline industry professionals. Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, the 2011 regatta attracted a record number of participants from 20 international airlines who all flocked to the BVI to get out of their planes and into their boats.

From October 11-20, Interline participants raced aboard Beneteau-built Moorings charter boats. Though the competition was tight, team SAS reigned supreme in all three classes with wins in Class A (Moorings 41.3), Class B (Moorings 43.4 and 43.4) and Class C (Moorings 50.5 and 51.5).

Off the water, the regatta featured nightly theme parties where racers and spectators showed up in full garb, ready to enjoy the beachside parties at Pirates, The Jolly Roger, Pusser’s and Saba Rock. New for 2011, the events also included a “Spectator/Lay Day” celebration at Leverick Bay Resort and Marina, where participants enjoyed an afternoon of live music and activities, followed by late-night dancing and Caribbean fire dancers.
